Carole symposium Theoretical linguistics and language acquisition at New York College Thessaloniki
The 3rd CAROLE Symposium on "Theoretical Linguistics and Language Acquisition" took place with great success at NYC College, Thessaloniki on April 18th, organized by the Department of English Language and English Language Teaching of New York College, Thessaloniki in partnership with CAROLE Centre for Applied Research and Outreach in Language Education of University of Greenwich. The Symposium brought together researchers and scholars in the field of theoretical linguistics from University of Greenwich, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and New York College, Thessaloniki who presented part of their research and work on second language acquisition and learning from the viewpoint of generativism theories (i.e. Universal Grammar (UG)). More specifically, they focused on syntax, morphology and semantics. Also discussed were Issues of transfer, critical period, and final attainment of a second language with reference to grammatical aspect and sentential negation. The speakers addressed a varied audience ranging from language teachers, and students, researchers and lecturers in the field of Theoretical and Applied Linguistics. The contribution of the speakers was highly appreciated and their speeches stimulated fruitful discussion while the excellent organization of the Symposium was praised by both the participants and attendees.
